Why I Believe

Can a well-educated person really believe all that “Jesus stuff”? Is there compelling evidence to support a faith in the Jesus of the Bible? A man who claims to be God, who claims to be the giver of eternal life and who claims to be the source of absolute truth? What about the Bible? How can we know it’s really true?

For the next week and half on Living on the Edge radio, we’re going to explore and find answers to life’s most difficult questions about what you believe…

  • Who is Jesus? Was he just a nice moral guy, a prophet or in fact God?
  • Was the resurrection of Jesus’ body for real? Or was that just a hoax?
  • How can I trust the validity of the Bible?
  • Did God really create the world in just seven literal days? How can I be sure? How does that gel with current studies in science?
  • Who is the God of the Bible? Can He be trusted?

I look forward to digging in with you all online or on your local radio station why we believe… what we believe as Christians. If you have friends who are skeptical of Christianity or interested in exploring the facts, this is a great series to give to a friend or ask them to listen with you and talk about it. Download MP3s or CD series at our online store.

Keep Pressin’ Ahead and I pray this series will solidify why you believe… what you believe!

Chip,

What is the Christian view of how old the earth is, since scientists say it’s millions of years old. I don’t have an answer for this.

Thanks

I love this series and would like to know if it comes in a book form. This would be a great resource to give to the high school seniors that I teach before they head to college.

Chip -

I just heard a message of yours on evolution. A few things that I think would be good to consider are:

(i) Evolution vs Creation is a false dichotomy. The theory of evolution says nothing about the existence of God. In fact, it is perfectly compatible with one’s Christian beliefs to accept evolution as a well supported theory.

(ii) Evolution says nothing about the origins of life. This is abiogenesis. Rather, evolution seeks to explain the diversity of life.

(iii) Evolution is not a random process. It works via the laws of physics and natural selection.

(iv) You stated that the theory of evolution is in crisis and cited some scientists who apparently support this position. Such a statement is much too strong, however. The theory of evolution is actually a thriving science and is the basis of many areas of research. It is by no means in crisis.

With respect,

Yes, I agree. Please put this in book form or reference the books that influenced this series on Why I Believe. Vital information for my entire family.

I heard you Friday broadcast on WEEC Springfield, Ohio at 12:05 pm. This was the exact topic we were dicussing earlier that evening. Some family members have said I believe in Science and I would prefer you don”t take our children to the Creation Museum. You are right on how many of us christians don’t realize that beleiving in evolution is ia an anati-God world view.

Chip,
You just opened a can of worms, as a beliver, since childhood, I find myself trying to absorb as much information as I possibly can. A book or your transcpript from this series would be very benificial to answer questions from a darwinistic group.

I have listened to your teaching on evolution vs. creation by a Christian God, and I have found it lacking credibility, logical contradiction, logical fallacy, and slanted citation.

I shall never listen to your program again.

Try sticking to what you do best: the pseudo-psychological babble you usually put out. And next time read a real book on evolution.
