Fear of the Unknown

Some years ago after a routine doctor’s visit my wife got the call you never want to receive. Something had shown up and more tests were required. I was gripped by fear – afraid of the unknown. All of our children were living at home at the time, and my mind went into overdrive, imagining every possible scenario – most of them “worst case.” I was afraid that God would fail me. I was afraid that God would abandon me.  I was afraid that God wouldn’t do what I wanted Him to do.

There I was, pursuing ministry and telling people about trusting Jesus with every aspect of their lives, and God tested ME. He called on me to step up to the plate and meet him, head on, in the midst of some of the deepest fear I’d ever experienced. Ultimately, this particular situation turned out ok. We were blessed to learn that Theresa’s tests came back just fine, but the experience had a profound impact on us.

It seems like the “unknowns” people face on a day-to-day basis are at an all-time high. Many people are facing significant and frightening challenges in all areas of their lives: health, finances, family and career. I recently spoke at a men’s Bible study and within the first five minutes I met four people who were unemployed. For them, the unknown was how to provide for their families. They shared with me fears about losing their homes and wondered how long their savings or retirement accounts could sustain them.

What is your great “unknown?” We all have deep-seeded fears within us that can shake us to our very core.  Is it really possible to live with peace and confidence when facing such uncertainty?

Here’s the thing: uncertain times aren’t new. As Christians, how we react in the face of the unknown may be the most fundamental, strategic opportunity for the body of Christ in decades. God placed you in your life, your neighborhood, your job, your church and your family for a reason, with the complete knowledge that this time would come. He knew the precise moment you would be called on to face your fears. He did so with a specific plan in mind for YOU.

Confidence doesn’t come from getting what we want and peace is not a by-product of prosperity. Our ability to carry on in times of adversity comes directly from God’s grace; from the personal knowledge that He will meet us where we’re at and help us make it through every situation.

At some point in the future someone will come to you, scared and full of anxiety, and you need to be equipped to share with them. You’ll have an opportunity to introduce them to the God of Peace, and you can’t do that if you say all the right  things but inside are paralyzed by fear and blinded by the unknown.

This week we begin a new series called “Facing the Future with Confidence.” In it, we’ll examine what God taught Joshua in the midst of some pretty overwhelming and uncertain times. We’ll learn Biblical truths that, when activated in our lives, help transform God’s promises from “head knowledge” to “heart knowledge.”

You don’t have to live in fear of the unknown. You cannot fail because God will give you what you need, and you won’t be abandoned because God will never leave you.  Whatever unknown you’re facing, God is presenting you with an opportunity – how will you respond?

Keep Pressin’ Ahead,

I think uncertainty could be viewed as a blessing for it makes us trust in Him more and working through the uncertain road ahead knowing that we are not alone.

God test the ones He loves because He loves us. I am being tested more and more by the grace of God. He created me so He knows how much I can take even if I am not sure. He is teaching me to put on the full armour of Christ and fight! I think the church “Christ’s body” is satisfied or think they are satisfied in holding on, puting on there armour as a defense, remember we have been called by God to be His people, to proclaim His truth and victory, His power and strenght, His defeat over Satan and the bondage to sin. When one is tested they will eighter fight or run. How could a believer who is impowered by the Holy Spirit knowing of Gods almighty power and grace and love for His childeren be afraid? We are fighting a war that cannot be won on our own strenght and understanding, but if God is for us, who can stand against us. Christ did not give His life so that we may be a slave to sin, He defeated sin and Satan on the cross and his people the priveledge and the honor to proclaim His name, His power, His glory, His victory over all power of sin and Satan and his kingdom. Once you understand this, you will most gladly spend and be spent for the souls of others, even if knowing the more you love them you shall be loved less. Praise God for His trials, I am being strenghtened by the Creator who loves me so much He paid the ultimate price, not that I may have life, but life with Him! Proclaim Christ to be King and His victory over this world! Awsome!!

I always wonder how my future will be like, even tomorrow. When I first encountered God, I was excited to face the future because I was waiting what God will do in my life every day. But now, maybe, I lost my first love. I am gradually becoming lukewarm. It is sad.
I pray that God would restore my passion for Christ. I can not stand my driness in my spiritual life. Prayerless, laziness,,,,,
I pray that the Holy Spirit will quiken my spirit. PASSION FOR THE SOULS!!!!!
If I keep my assurance in Jesus, I will not be afraid anything in my life because my life agenda belongs to God alone. At the same time, I need to my part as a co- workman with God.

Is it about what God does in our life for us, or what God does through us for others? When we stand strong in the face of uncertainty because our hope is in Christ, not in the things of this world, then we are an effective witness of the hope we have in Him. We are called to take off the old and put on the new (put on Christ) every day. Ephesians 4 Every day, it is an act of our will to live out His will as it is stated in His Holy Word and to love others sacrificially as Christ loved us. We will not be too afraid of uncertainty (ok we are human, but do we have faith and believe Him or not) when we we have died to ourselves and been born in Christ. If we keep our eyes on Him and really see what He did for us, what He endured for us, for you, for me, then it is easier to keep the love alive. But true love is a choice, not a feeling. Hang in there and keep your eyes on Him. Be excited by the times we live in and the signs of God at work. How blessed we are to see Him and offer ourselves in service to Him until we see Him face to face. The only thing I fear is that I might not have turned to Him and come to know Him, and that people I love still do not.

I needed this today..we found out last week…7 days ago that my young, healthy, in shape, non-smoking, not overweight husband has lymphoma. To say we are devastated and terrified does not even begin to discribe our feelings. We have 2 children..did I mention I am 6 months pregnant. Please pray for my husband..our children, our family.

Mat 10:28-31 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
